New Atomic Data Portal
DSI Faculty Council Member and DiCos Core Director, Rudi Eigenmann and UD Professor, Marianna Safronova, combine physics and computer science to develop their atomic portal that provides extraordinary information about atomic properties in user-friendly ways.
Interdisciplinary Problem Solving
Computing, engineering and polymer sciences converge in a new NSF doctoral traineeship created by UD Professor and DSI Faculty Council member, Arthi Jayaraman. “Computing and Data Science Training for Materials Innovation, Discovery, AnalyticS” (NRT-MIDAS) will teach doctoral students how to use high-performance computing and data science to lead to new discoveries and innovations in the field of polymers.
Taking Stock
Drought is expected to become more common under climate change. UD disaster researcher and DSI Affiliated faculty member, A.R. Siders, is among the scientists working to assess whether current adaptation methods are enough or what new approaches may be needed.
New Neuroscience Grad Program
UD pulls together expertise from disciplines in Colleges of Health, Engineering and Arts and Sciences in introducing an Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Graduate program for the fall semester of 2021. John Jeka, professor and chairperson for the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology and DSI affiliated faculty discusses the program in a UDaily article.
Looking Deeper into the Soil
DSI Faculty Council member, Rodrigo Vargas, to build cutting-edge tools for studying soils with new Deep Soil Ecotron.
Artificial intelligence for the masses
Professor Rudolph Eigenmann, interim chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences and DSI DiCos Core Director, is part of a $20 million National Science Foundation-funded project to expand access to artificial intelligence.
Making the Most of Yeast
Associate Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and DSI Affiliated Faculty member, Mark Blenner, receives prestigious Young Investigator Award.
Blue Hen Stars
The latest issue of the University of Delaware Magazine features an in-depth look at UD’s data science prowess. The Magazine profiles leaders like DSI Founding Director, Cathy Wu (a pioneer in using Big Data to uncover the secrets of living organisms) and many of the DSI Resident Faculty.
Antarctic telescope provides students with findings for analysis
This summer, the data gathered by the massive neutrino observatory in Antarctica, known as IceCube, provided a group of 16 undergraduate and graduate students from UD and five other institutions with the opportunity to contribute to the research. The students used supercomputers to analyze the data as they developed their own research and computer skills. The program was supported through an NSF grant, with Dr. Frank Schroeder (DSI Affiliated Faculty) a co-PI.
