Engineering the Future of Manufacturing
UD College of Enginnering’s Marianthi Ierapetritou leads a $3 million National Science Foundation effort to explore renewable raw materials for chemical manufacturing. Also participating in this project are DSI Affiliated Faculty members Hui Fang, Dionisios Vlachos, and Kalim Shah.

Congratulations to DSI Affiliated Faculty Jennifer Horney, for being appointed by the Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR), a Federal Advisory Committee for the CDC, to the newly created Strategic Capacity Building and Innovation Program (SCIP) as part of the Preparedness and Response Review Working Group (SRWG). The workgroup provides guidance for improvement of preparedness and response capabilities to CDC. It consists of eight to nine experts in the fields relevant to public health preparedness and response, including epidemiology, lab science, health policy, health equity, emergency planning, disaster management and environmental health.

Congratulations to DSI Faculty Council member and Training Working Group Chair, Susan Conaty-Buck, for receiving the 2022 State Advocate Award of Excellence from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). This award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding achievements by nurse practitioners and advocates within each state who have made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and recognition of nurse practitioners (NPs).
Preventing Further Injury in Athletes After Concussion
DSI Resident Faculty, Austin Brockmeier, and DSI Affiliated Faculty, Wei Qian, teamed up with Associate Professor Thomas Buckley and UD’s Department of Athletics to develop an injury risk reduction model that will determine who is most at risk for additional injury following concussion.
Winners Selected for 2021 Map Competition
Congratulations to this year’s winner of the 2021 University of Delaware Student Competition for Geospatial Data Visualization / Map Design, Loonibha Manandhar, for “Scenario-based Projected Population Exposure to Sea Level Rise, Wilmington City, Delaware, USA, 2100” and runner up, Anthony Chan, for “University of Delaware Shuttle Bus Potential Idle Time on a Random Day in Spring 2021”.
